Crowns and Veneers

Veneers

Veneers can be made from porcelain or composite resin. They can be used to reshape, re-colour and fill in the 'gaps', with minimum tooth removal. Porcelain veneers are a two staged procedure where the teeth are lightly prepared on the outside surface and an impression taken. On the second visit the porcelain veneers are bonded onto the teeth as covers.

Resin veneers are a one visit technique in which minimal, if any, tooth is removed. Porcelain veneers last much longer than the resin ones but are about four times the cost. Resin veneers normally last about 5 - 6 years.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are used when there is little tooth left or when they are being used as supports (abutments) for a bridge.

All porcelain, 'Procera' crowns are generally used for all our single restorations, as these are very strong, very beautiful and have no metal content. Sometimes, in suitable cases, we can make bridges (replacing missing teeth) in all porcelain. Where extra strength is required such as in posterior areas, a porcelain fused to metal construction maybe utilised.

The tooth on the left is very discoloured and required a root filling,  as the nerve had died. A tooth coloured post was inserted and utilising a mixture of porcelain crowns and veneers, the whole aesthetics were improved by eliminating the ugly gap in the front.
